Xiaojun Podcast Digest
What this is
Xiaojun Podcast is one of the most influential Chinese AI long-form interview podcasts. Episodes run 1-7 hours, with guests spanning international AI labs, Chinese LLM startups, VC, and application-layer founders. The problem: 7-hour videos are one-shot listens, and you forget which moment was where.
This repo turns each episode into a navigable Markdown index, in parallel Chinese and English:
- Chapters — 30-80 topic blocks per episode with clickable YouTube timestamp links
- Notable quotes — original Chinese verbatim preserved; English version adds translation
- Predictions — explicit falsifiable predictions with stated horizons
- Visual signals — what transcripts miss: energy shifts, emphatic gestures, authenticity tells, production setting
- Named entities — people / companies / methods mentioned

Moments worth jumping to (Saining Xie Ep 133)
The subtitle “Two Rejections of Ilya” isn’t clickbait — there are real story-telling beats in the video, and the visual signals make them stand out:
- 1:21:47 Recalling Ilya’s angry phone call → corners of mouth lift, body leans in, laughter (the lightness of looking back on past conflict)
- 1:22:44 Asked if the FAIR offer was smooth → laughs out loud, shakes head, says “bumpy” — open and unguarded
- 1:25:27 Admits to rejecting Ilya a second time → expression turns serious, speech slows, gaze drops in thought — this decision wasn’t light
- 1:33:08 Critiquing the “create impact” framing as self-centered → chopping hand motion, sharp gaze — genuinely intense
The interview covers his unlikely entry into Jiao Tong’s ACM class, the formative influence of senior Hou Xiaodi, collaborating with Kaiming He at MIT on DSN, what DeepMind’s organisational model taught him about RL, rejecting OpenAI to join FAIR, leaving Silicon Valley to co-found AMI Labs, world models, Yann LeCun and Fei-Fei Li, and the meaning of “42.”
